Short and simple this one
All too often we see people trying out various supplements according to their means. Have a good month, add something new, a great month, try three new things... and so on.
What I also see with said trainees is that they will then hand out advice based on their reaction to the products they took. If they used just one and kept everything else in their diet, training and the like as it was they are better to set to seeing how well they reacted to the supplement. But if they tweaked a whole bunch of stuff and threw in 3 new faddish items then added pounds to their bench say, what was it that made the leap for them?
Was it the new routine? The new miricle X product? What they ate? You can see that they might not be best set to state that this or that did the job.
The flip side is almost as bad. I see guys who I KNOW are not getting their whole act together handing out advice, usually negative and along the lines of 'said product does not work for me'. I refer you to the example of the creatine article I've put up elsewhere. Guys trying the 42nd version of a cell volumizer (Creatine Gluconate being one) without realizing it is the same as the Creatine and Gloucose they used before. There are 2 possible issues. Creatine doesn't work for them being one and them eating like a fucking mouse and training like a dead one being the other.
These are the same guys I see training triceps on the cable cross-over machine (yes like I do when not using a pulldown machine) with 5 perhaps 6 plates. The ''monsterous'' 105lbs stack is made of 5lb plates so 5 plates is 30lbs. But it has a 3 pulley system so the ratio is 60% or so in your hands. Ergo they are using 18 or so pounds on tricep pressdowns. Now unless they are injured or disabled in some way I'd expect 90% of trainees to use a little more weight. They'd get more growth stimulus carrying home their shopping from Asda. Yet they will also be trying supplements 'which don't work' and handing out advice on the same.
I think I need to add this to my 'things which make me go Grrr!!!' list
