There is a tigtht coupling between protein delivery to the gut and beta cell anticipitory responses because amino acids are in fact insulinotrophic, that again goes back to my argument about people who say its neccessary to take an amino acid threshold dose and couple it with a carb intake [in some nonsense ratio that someone made up] and say thats absolutely beneficial.
Well it may be, but only in the sense that when you look at the minutia of the response repatoire, you find that if the carbohydrate has any additional effect its simply to limit protein breakdown, and thats not the issue post workout, the issue post workout is augmentation of synthesis, and I can tell you for a fact that there is no molecular data to show that adding carbohydrate to a threshold level of [say] 30g of a high branched chain amino acid containing protein will drive the markers of synthesis any higher.
Since most people are eating mixed meals throughout the day, you're carbohydrate interaction [vis a vis breakdown] is taken care of by the mixed meal consumption.
You need not obsess about adding the carbohydrate on top of the protein after a workout, you may think you are getting augmented synthesis but I guarantee you nobody to date has shown that is the case.
