Back - phew. It's doable We arrived at the fire brigade HQ a little after 2pm and their rep came out and walked us over to their fire safety tender. It's a 96 Leyland Daf which we think weighs in at about 12-13 tonnes. Having already set up the harness etc I went first. Trying it without the fixed rope and from what the guys said was a slight camber it wasn't budging. So I had the engine move a few yards forward and we affixed the rope to a lamp post and I took the strain again. Off I went! I starts plowing along and was happy that it was moving. Scooter, at about 90 or so kilos, is the lighest (Alf and I are both 120+ kilos) changed to a pair of specialist shoes and once the strain was taken also got it shifting along. Finally up came Alf who asked the most questions and seemed the most doubtful but in the end seemed to move the quickest once he knew he could do it. We made sure to drop by the school and looked at the site again and have decided on a flat grassy area to the rear. If need be we'll take along our 3-feet metal spikes and anchor the rope to a 2 and a half ton transit but feel sure that it's gonna be a good day. As I was busy the camera stayed in my back but some photos were taken and as soon as we have them I'll copy and post 'em.

In what might be a strange twist the whole pulling of the tender has become a little more personal for one of the guys. Just behind me in the photo is one of the lads from Gymnation who we all call Scooter (dunno why never asked). Since the pull niether hide nor hair of him has been seen in the gym and I joked he was still resting.
It turns out that his other halfs young daughter from a pervious relationship has been very ill. Scooter has been at hospital every day with his girl and one of my neighbours came over today to tell me that it looks like they are switching off the life support machine this evening. She said that Scooter will be calling me and I'm guessing he'll wanna do the very best he can on August 27th.
I'll have a chat with him asap but I'd like him to be the first one to pull the tender. I'd guess it'll be very emotional for him and I'll be jibbing as many lads from the gym etc to be there to offer their support. I'll keep you all updated. Sufficent to say that it was always gonna be for a good cause but now one of our own has reason to do something very special.

Ok I'm gonna copy and link the poster which has just been sent to me. That says 2pm so I'd like the guys there an hour before at 1pm. I think that we can get some great photos with the kids and set up the block (for pushing off on as it'll be on grass) and order of the guys etc. Plus it allows for late-comers and cock-ups. Looks like a fun day out. I would love to have a go at pulling that, I doubt I would even move it an inch.

Looks like a fun day out. I would love to have a go at pulling that, I doubt I would even move it an inch. The smallest guy that moved it last week during our trial run was 90-kilos and is a life time drug free powerlifter. So you'd have no problems and it's for a good cause.

I'm not 90kg, I'm even smaller. I'm sure as sh*t not drug free, so that might go in my favour...LOL How long do you think it will take to get there from Cardiff??? Put the poster and details of the event on www.powerliftinguk.com, see if we can get some more to have a go.

From Cardiff to Gloucester no more than 1.5 hours more like 1 hour if you get a clear run.
Come on over you know you want to.

Directions. Follow the main road into town (indicated on the map mentioned below) and you'll end up near the railway station. Follow the signs for Asda (you'll see as you come into town and also at the main set of lights outside the station it'll be visible in the distance) and pass it to the lights. On your right is GL1 a large sports centre. Turn left at the lights into Barton Street and first right following the road around (Sinope Street being one way at the Barton Street end). You go about 100 yards down that street and just after you pass the old version of Widden School (looks run down) turn left and the road opens up at the end with the gates of the school directly ahead. There is limited no yellow line parking here but it will fill up early. Asda, nearby, only allows 2 hours at a time. Once at the school through the gates and there's a brick path and having paid your pennies to get in follow the signs to the large field at the rear where the fair is set up. www.multimap.co.uk ref for address (school is near top right corner of map image) www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=383750&Y=218250&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=pc&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=&zm=1&scale=10000"]http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&X=383750&Y=218250&width=500&height=300&gride=&gridn=&srec=0&coordsys=gb&db=pc&addr1=&addr2=&addr3=&pc=&advanced=&local=&localinfosel=&kw=&inmap=&table=&ovtype=&keepicon=&zm=1&scale=10000 Alternatively you can meet at our unit (there is some secure off-street parking (5-6 vehicles max), lots of strength equipment, a few tubs of protein... and I can make the tea ) before a short walk to the school.
