Ok here goes sunday night!!! tommorow im going to start focusing on grip strength, if things are rolling well by the new year then i might enter the british grip championships. Im on a week of nights this week so training will be interesting anyway also will weigh self tommorow as i need to address that issue too, ive spent the last three years powerlifting in the bpo at a moderate level and due to my uni dissertation havnt trained for a while and i need to give up the lovely cheescake and fruitful delicious cider pints (oh how i will miss them). tommorow i will try out my new rolling thunder handle and see what i can do.

Your bodyweight is only an issue in the novice section. In the open class it hardly matters (thanks goodness ha ha).

Novice?? what would i have to be to be a novice??? still only 22 years young does that count for anything??
Tonights session Monday 23 Oct
tinkered on bench squat and deadlift for reps to get the body working again
then
did some plate curls 3x8 last set on 10kg discs
rolling thunder lh & Rh
1x4- 20kg 1x3- 40kg 1x1- 50kg maxed couldnt get the damn thing off the floor after
all wieghts dont include weight for handle and 2 inch loading pin
3x 1 up and down on old fashioned 3 inch thick wooden wrist roller with 10 kg on the end
session was ok im not sure whether im doing enough my arms were very pumped at the end though will play with my grippers on wed

You talked about losing weight - no need if you are in the open class - a need for points if you are in the novice class.

In short (as best I can). 1) Novice typically means not much experience - it has been argued thus in strongman. Typically you may have competed once or twice but not placed in the top three 2) Of a level not likely to trouble anyone in the open class. At my first Grip event David Horne said 'you can close a three - none of the novices can - so you are a pro/open class entree' 3) The main one, after the above, is that there are advantages in points for being lighter, older and or being a women. So the same lift by a young big lad would get less points than if done by a lighter, older women. All events no matter what class get a co-efficent. I have left of putting anyone in a class myself as many of ya are training well and may be of a better standard by the time of the event coming round. I plan on being stronger you will be too.

lost weight over xmas, have been training fairly well. just finished a 6 week 20 rep squat hybrid routine and the results have got me into a decent shape.
However
I have fell into the trap of trying to bend rip tear lift and do all things grip related and getting nowhere if not evading injury luckily on occasion,
I have found it hard going from being average strength in powerlifting to piss poor in grip strength which is quite obvious really only my ego and ignorance have kicked the shit out of me.
My mind is right for starting everything and im hungry again to go to the gym work hard and really excel at something again.
so the plan
back to basics
I went on david hornes website the other day by chance and noticed a beginners workout which came at the right time heres my plan.
continuing 3 times a week high rep kettlebell work to kick start the day.
2 nights a week in the gym (work and degree constraints)
Mon Front squats 5x5 Bench press 5x5 Shoulder press 5x5 Dips 4x10
Fri Wide grip OH deadlifts 5x5 High Pulls 5x5 DB Curls 4x8
Both days Not sure on before or after compound movements Two Hands Pinch Lift for holds 3x5 (20 secs) Finger curls with an Olympic Bar, overhand grip. 3x12 Two Hand Wrist Curl. 3x12 Two Hands Reverse Wrist Curl.3x12
1 day of the week i will play with bricks and my beer barrell in the garden
well tommorow im going to the gym to test all the exercises out in preparation for starting this programme on monday for twelve weeks
any suggestions, advice etc much appreciated.

Wide grip OH deadlifts 5x5x140 High Pulls 5x5x80kg DB Curls 4x8x25kg
Tough session first time ive pinch gripped anything used my loading pin to hold two 20 discs together have a nice area on my thumb thats still warm.
should have done the grip stuff after the bigger movements as they were tougher than usual so will try that next week to compare.
