Still recovering from the weekend, sore lat and right hand, but looking forward to open comps from now on. Got to work on my focus for each event as this had a bearing on the mistakes I made iin the Severn Valley. Roll on the Southwest open!

Something Mike said he discussed with you was you allowing too many distractions between events. I did a little of this at the British Grip. Allowing for time to rest and refuel is no problem at all. However, try and set aside a few minutes prior to your next event where you are already wearing the belt and equipment (loose but ready to be tightened) and start geeing yourself up. By the time you step onto the field you must be ready to tear it up and set new PB's.

I can't wait. It'll be good just to see what we can all achieve in the open, and I think the challenge will do us good and I'm sure it'll be a PB day all round ;D Good luck.

Big future ahead of him. Happy about the farmers, but following a supected injury on Sunday, the pain in my lat during the initial pick up was a bitch. Picking anything up was. Now I'm home its even sore if I first start to lean forward. But once I've lifted it, it's fine! So bugger it. This is strongman

WEDNESDAY
Bench press 60kg x 10 80kg x 10 100kg x 10 100kg x 10 100kg x 8 100kg x 8 100kg x 8 60kg x 15
Tricep extensions 20kg db x 10 x3 sets
Pushdowns 50kg x 10 40kg x 10 25kg x 25
Preacher curls 20kg db 10 x 3 sets
Hammer curls 20kg db x 10 x 2 sets
Still suffering with a back injury sustained at the southwest which is limiting the exercises i can do and the weights. Really annoying now cus everytime i trey something like squats or dead lift or shoulder press, even if ti's light, the pain that follows the day after is a bitch. And now today after yesterdays light bench session it feels bad again. I might have to obstain from all compound exercises for a bit until it has cleared up and just concentrate on isolation exercises and cardio.

Steve, while I am waiting for my back to heal i want to start a pure grip program that doesn't rely on shifting a lot of weight but still gives me a constant challenge and variation so i can do it often. At home i have hgh 100, 150, 200, 250 and coc 3. I also have a selection of weights and can use other things i have like sledge hammers etc. Any advice would be great. PS Hope the boiler's still running.

Given the nature of your injury I'd give the sledgehammers a miss. At least as far as overhead is conserned. You might be able to do forward and reverse levering with a sledge. If it's too heavy hold it closer to the weighted end and do reps. You can also do, keeping your arm against your side, sledge rotations.
If done very strictly, again arm against the side, you might be ok with strict concentration plate curls as well as wrist curls using the plates.
Grippers as per usual. For rep and set schemes I suggest similar to what you are used to.
PS: yes so far ha ha.

Back's feeling good at last so time to get on with it! Been pissing me off feeling like a mortal again he he! Gonna set my sites on the british iron grip now and just aim for a contest or two in the summer on the strongman. I think i will be able to achieve more on the grip side as there are less things opposing my progression.
MONDAY
Got back into the swing of things after 3 months of bugger all.
Bench - worked upto 80kg to get the muscles accustomed again. Stiff leg deads - a few high rep sets 0n 50kg (and my hamstrings know about it now). Shoulder press - few sets working upto 60kg
Did a few grip exercises to get a feel for it -
V-bar - quite a few reps and varying weights on this, liked this one, definetly got the blood pumping! Rolling thunder - just felt this one out, gonna do this on saturday. Pinch - got a nice feel for this, gonna be a satisfying feeling watching the weights go up. Plate wrist curls An intense flat bench wrist curl (not sure of proper name) - what a beast!! Never knew my wrists could feel quite that fried! And bent a couple of nails.
Loved it! Can't wait until i recover what i've lost and gain extra!
